Do you have any of these items in your garage or basement? Please bring them to Courage Kenny on Saturday, April 12th, 9am-3pm. We are also looking for volunteers to help load the trailer. Please contact Lonny Stormo at lonnyrotary@gmail.com if you can help!
There will be a food-packing event on Saturday, May 3 at the District Make Peace Visible Conference. The packs will support The Outreach Program (Ending Hunger Locally & Globally | Outreach Program) which feeds 1,200 at-risk children at schools they support in Tanzania. Our club will be donating our sgt at arms collections from Apr 3rd, 10th, and 17th. We hope to raise $80. Which covers the materials for one case, 216 meals. If you would like to donate but will not be at any of those meetings please reach out to Amanda, Scott, or Keith.
One of my key takeaways from NC PETS in March was the importance of trust in club leadership. As your leadership team, we are committed to transparency and keeping you informed about the work we’re doing.
When Schuyler had to step down in December, I told the board I would step up—but only with their help. They have been supportive throughout this transition, and I want to especially recognize Scott Mercer. Whether you call us co-presidents or refer to our succession terms, Scott and I, along with incoming President Nominee Molly Landgreen and our entire Board of Directors, are working as a true team to lead our club.
Across our district and Rotary International, there is a strong push for change as membership numbers decline. While we must explore new ways to attract and engage future members, I also believe our club has a strong foundation—one that may simply need a spark to reignite its momentum.
This is where you come in. I invite each of you to be part of this journey. Many of you have dedicated years of service to Rotary. Your experience, insights, and vision are invaluable. What are we passionate about? What do we want to accomplish as a club for our community and the world?
Please join our visioning session on April 10th to help shape our future. If you cannot attend, we still want to hear your thoughts. Please share them with any of us.
Let’s work together to strengthen our club, honor its legacy, and ensure its future success. Amanda
Amanda and Scott attended NC PETS Mar 13th -15th, an annual training event for incoming Presidents
and Presidents-Nominee in Districts 5580, 5950,5960, and 5970. It was full of fellowship with Rotarians from our area and being inspired by their clubs, district leadership, and keynote speakers. Stay tuned for all our take aways in the upcoming months and a new monthly email, a letter from leadership, to help keep you informed about all that is happening with your club leadership team.
With over four decades dedicated to my classification, Behavioral Health Care, I've passionately guided individuals, families, work teams, and organizations through life's complexities. In 1988, I had the distinct honor of joining Rotary International during its inaugural year of welcoming female members. As a member of the St. Paul Sunrise Rotary since February of that year, I embraced Rotary's ideals, which swiftly became integral to my personal and professional beliefs.
In 1991, my fellow Rotarians elected me Club President, leading to my attendance at the International Convention in Mexico City and the recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow. These experiences deepened my commitment to Rotary's mission.
The entrepreneurial spirit led me to Stillwater in 1994, where I co-founded The Sand Creek Group. With the unwavering support of the community, we transformed into an international corporation specializing in employee assistance counseling, training, trauma response, and organization development. Under my 25-year tenure as President and CEO, we served hundreds of organizations, including four administrations of the Office of the President of the United States, the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, major league teams, numerous corporations, and various governmental bodies.
My Rotary journey continued in Stillwater, serving on the Board of Directors from 2002 to 2009 and as Club President during the 2007-2008 term. Between 2004 and 2011, I held four leadership positions within District 5960, furthering Rotary's impact.
The reasons I joined Rotary remain the reasons I stay: a steadfast belief in its power as a global force for good. The principles of "Service Above Self," truth, fairness, goodwill, and the pursuit of global peace resonate deeply with my personal mission.
On a personal note, the love of my life is my husband and fellow Rotarian, David Wettergren. Together, our blended family boasts five children and eight grandchildren. Our family's international ties are profound: four of our children have partners from different countries, with two daughters residing abroad—one in Germany and another in India. Notably, five of our eight grandchildren hold dual citizenship, embodying our global connections.
A cherished Rotary memory is from 2021 when David faced a severe battle with COVID-19, enduring 54 days in medical facilities, including 11 days in a coma on a ventilator. During this harrowing time, our Rotary Club's heartfelt video message provided solace and strength, exemplifying the profound friendships and support that define our Rotary family. For this outpouring of love, we remain eternally grateful.
Ben Thietje, Executive Director of the Philipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, shared the history of the center, highlighted its programs, and discussed opportunities for community involvement.
The Service Committee hosted a volunteering opportunity at Valley Outreach last week. Thank you to our volunteers: Sharon, Tom, Patty, Lois, Katie, Molly, Clare, and Bev! Watch for more opportunities to volunteer in the community. The next Service Committee meeting will be on March 24th to discuss new ideas. If you’d like to attend the meeting, please contact Katie Bang.
