We are honored to receive the City of Stillwater's Proclamation! Our party of the century is coming up quick!
I am excited about our current emphasis on YOUTH AND MENTORING.
This Friday will be my first STRIVE event. I have completed the Rotary District 5960's Youth Protection Training to become a Certified Volunteer. Please see the article below on training, and let me know when you have completed the training-- I'm keeping an updated list.
Last week Teresa Bettman shared about the work that Common Bond is doing in Guatemala for education and the support of families in their children's education as a means to improve life in that country.
Working with Youth, Rotary District 5960 is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all participants in Rotary activities. It is the duty of all Rotarians, spouses or partners of Rotarians, and any other volunteers to safeguard to the best of their ability the welfare of and to prevent the abuse or neglect of youth with whom they come into contact in Rotary Youth activities.

The process of becoming Youth Certified is an easy one, just follow the three steps below.
You are required to watch the Youth Protection Training Presentation start to finish.
When you get to the last slide, please fill out the Youth Protection Training Completion Form to receive credit for finishing the Youth Protection Policy Training.
District 5960 Youth Volunteer Application. After you submit the application it will be sent the the District 5960 Youth Protection Officer, please allow 3 - 5 days for a response.
District 5960 has set up a background check portal with IntelliCorp, a trusted third-party verification service that works with Rotary clubs and Districts across North America.
One of Rotary's areas of service is Vocation Service. As a Rotarian, how can you put these ideals into action? Consider these suggestions:
Talk about your profession in your club, and take time to learn about fellow members’ occupations.
Use your skills and expertise to serve a community.
Practice your profession with integrity, and inspire others to behave ethically through your words and actions.
Help young people achieve their career goals.
Guide and encourage others in their professional development.
These last two items are the reason for this email. District 5960 is looking to do just that for our Rotaractors, Rotex (former Youth Exchange students), and Young Rotarians (<35). We plan to have meet-up events throughout the year to bring mentors and mentees together through vocational and other interests.
Shawn Berry, District Public Image Team, and all-around Tech Master, created the Upper Midwest Rotary website, and then added a page for this mentoring program. We are asking any Rotarians interested in being a mentor to opt in by creating a profile. See the link below. The confidential information will be used to pair you with potential mentees at these upcoming events. The events are just one opportunity to get involved. There are other, more informal ways to mentor such as going out for lunch or coffee.
Think about the mentors in your life who took the time to help you on your journey. We accomplish nothing on our own, but are helped along the way in both small and large ways. And we achieve so much more than we ever thought, because someone cared and took the time.
Please consider giving your wisdom, your talent, your knowledge, your experience, and your time to help the next generation as a mentor.
