Obed will be inducted into the club today

Everyone please welcome Obed!

Next Week - Outdoor Social

Our meeting on 2/25 will be held outside on Chestnut Street Plaza, near the Stillwater Wintertime Lights display.   We will meet at our normal meeting time.  Katie Bang will lead a short meeting and then there will be time for socializing.  We ask that you wear a mask and keep some distance.  We hope this will be a fun and safe way to see each other in person.  Bundle up!

If you have made, or plan to make, a donation to our global grant for Senitizo, your name will be entered into a drawing to win $100 worth of gift cards for local restaurants.   We will draw five names.   You don’t need to be present at the meeting to win.  Please send your donation to Keith Komro or contact Scott Mercer to make a commitment.

Global Grant
Dear Stillwater Rotarians,

We Need Your Help!

As many of you know, we have embarked on and been approved for a sizeable Global Grant to support our very own Stillwater native, Ted Hooley and his non-profit organization, Senitizo, on a project supporting Maternal and Child Health and Mortality in the Central African Republic.

This project will support the purchase of needed health equipment necessary to begin providing primary health care at the targeted health facility, including:

  •          Hospital beds for the maternal and pediatric wards of the health center
  •          Two delivery beds where women can safely and comfortably deliver under the supervision of skilled medical professionals
  •          Neonatal resuscitation table which provides a place for life-saving resuscitation for newborns in distress and allows medical staff to control and monitor body temperature in the hours after birth
  •          Laboratory diagnostic equipment needed to identify parasitic and other infections
  •          Refrigerator/freezer and cold boxes for the safe transport and storage of child vaccinations
  •          Autoclave to sanitize all reusable medical equipment at the clinic
  •          Medical waste incinerator to ensure infectious materials are disposed of properly of on site
  •          Midwifery tools necessary to aid in the safe delivery of a baby at the facility, including forceps, scissors, stainless steel basins, vacuum extractor
  •          Placenta pit to dispose of hazardous biological waste

In addition to medical equipment to be installed in the health center, this project will fund an ambulance for the transport of women in labor to the health facility and referral of obstetric emergencies to the closest hospital.   The attached presentation provided additional clarity on the project scope.

The total project cost is $64,000, of which about $42,000 will be covered by matching funds from District 5960 and Rotary International.  Our Goal is to raise about $22,000.  To date, we have approximately $2,000 from outside Clubs and some additional funds left over from a prior grant that can be re-allocated.   At this stage, we are trying to raise as much as we can from within the Club.

Since we have not held our formal “Taste of the Valley”  fundraiser in 2021, I’d like to ask each of you to consider making a donation at a level you feel comfortable with to get us further towards our goal.   Our desire would be to have funding commitments procured by the end of February.

Please feel free to reach back out to Scott Mercer at (651) 271-2484 or scottmercer50@gmail.com for more information or to make a pledge.   You could also make checks out to Stillwater Rotary and get them to Keith as well.

To sweeten the deal, for every $25.00 you donate, your name will go into a drawing for a restaurant gift card.  We will draw out 5 $100 winners at our meeting on 2/25/21.
Thanks so much for considering this donation.

Help make our global grant a success!!
