Tracey Galowitz After 37 years in an organization you wonder how much of an introduction is needed, but I love the member profiles as I learn something new about the members every time! I'm not sure what insight you will glean from this, but here goes... My first interaction with Rotary was as a Vagabond. We would sing for the Rotary club - made up of all "old business men!" I remember asking my mother's cousin, Greg Johnson, who was the principal of Oakland School at the time, why there was no women. He said he did not know, but thought there should be. I totally agreed. My next interaction with Rotary was as a law clerk with Bill Jepsen. He would (almost) weekly come into my office and say, "Come on Galowitz - it's time for Rotary!" Hank Sampson asked me to join the Rotary Club and on March 17, 1988 I was inducted with Susan Nelson as the first female Stillwater Rotarian. Well โ the rest is history. I have gained so much more than I have given from this club. I remember vividly being in Katie's position (Katie Bang is my daughter) knowing most of the members' children. And now I am that "old business person". I wear that badge with honor and totally enjoy the old and the new with all this "third home' has to offer. My favorite project by far is supporting Oksana and her lovely daughters to relocate to Stillwater. What an experience - from the amazing club support to the camaraderie of the committee. I am not sure who gained more - the family or the Rotarians! I am a principal at Galowitz Olson, PLLC, a law firm practicing in a variety of legal areas, made up of 6 attorneys and an amazing staff who I greatly admire and respect. It is an honor for me to work with many generations of families, in establishing and settling their estates. I married Scott Johnson one month after joining Rotary. We have three daughters, Katie, Nickie and Laurann and five grandchildren. In 1988 the spouses of Rotarians were called Rotary Anns - yup that's the truth. You should have heard the gasps when I referred to Scott as a Rotary Andy. |
