Last Week's Program
Jeanne Martin, with 9 Books Kenya, spoke to our club last week.  9 Books Kenya is a program which promotes critical thinking by delivering teacher training tied to culturally relevant picture books and thinking cards, given to Kenyan classrooms without books.  The organization has been around for 7 years and they have trained over 300 teachers in 115 small, rural elementary schools.  In 2019, they hope to expand the program to an additional 25 schools.
Rotary In The Community
Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to host our booth at the Community Showcase on the 14th.
Rotary Youth Exchange

Our club will again be hosting an inbound Rotary Youth Exchange Student and we need your help in finding homes.

We will be hosting a 17 year-old boy from Ecuador for the 2018-2019 school year.  He will arrive in August 2018.  We are looking for 3 host families.

The Rotary Clubs provide training and support for the host family, as well as a counselor and monthly allowance for the student.  We pay for school lunches, a cell phone plan and some school activities.   The host families are responsible for providing room and board.  You do not need to have a high school student at home – empty nesters and parents of younger children are often great host families.

Please contact Lori Johnson if you have questions or are interested in hosting.
