Youth Exchange Update

Ayane has moved to her 3rd home, thank you to all of the host families.  Plans are underway for the Eastern United States trip for the Rotary Youth Exchange Students.   Lori Johnson gave us the opportunity to buy Bouquets for a Year from Rose Floral to help with the trip funding.

Music Means More -- Opportunity
Hello everyone!

As you have been hearing, our club's "music committee" has been working hard to get the Music Means More project in motion--and we're succeeding!  Students and their families are using music education for lots of things in the classroom and for the big moment---providing them reading tutors!
For the months of April and May between 9:30 and 11 AM, our 4 kindergarten teachers would like to have up to 3 tutors in their classrooms.  Because of their schedule, I will list the dates here:

April: 5,6,7,8,12,13,14,15,18,20,21,22,25,26,27,28,29

May: 3,4,5,6,10,11,12,13,16,17,18,20

The last 2 weeks of school are filled with a variety special events; therefore, volunteers will not be needed past Friday, May 20th.

Some activities the volunteers can expect, include:
  • Reviewing sight words
  • Reading books
  • Literacy games or activities

Here is the link with the information about background authorization for volunteers, it will take you to the Parent & Student Resources Tab on the Stillwater Area Schools district website.

Please contact me if you would like to give some time--whether alot or a little--to this effort.  After all, closing the literacy gap is the whole point and the sooner the better!

Thanks.  And feel free to call with any questions.

Mary

CORRECTION
It was previously published that the U of M Gophers beat NDSU (Women's Hockey.)   Please accept the correction that the U of M Gophers beat University of North Dakota.  Although, the U of M Gophers probably would have beat UND if they played.   The U of M Bulldogs beat UND when they played. Bev is still the winner, and the humble Cogwheel editor stands corrected.
